Lecture 15

Vocal Technique for Young Singers

Healthy singing from the start

Vocal Technique for Young Singers

Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, learners will be able to: (1) demonstrate correct posture and breathing for singing; (2) warm up the voice safely in under five minutes; (3) explain why young voices should not be pushed for volume or range.

Lesson Discussion

Young voices are instruments still being built. This lesson focuses on posture, relaxed breathing, and gentle warm-ups that protect the voice rather than push it. Learners practise a five-minute warm-up they can lead themselves, and we discuss the difference between singing loudly and singing well. The lesson ends with a short unison song sung with healthy tone, not volume.
