Music and Child Development

What music does for growing minds

Music and Child Development

Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, learners will be able to: (1) describe how music supports language, motor, and social development; (2) select an activity appropriate to a given age group; (3) explain why play is central to early music learning.

Lesson Discussion

Music does developmental work long before it becomes performance. Learners look at how singing supports language, how movement builds motor control, and how group music teaches turn-taking. We match activities to age bands and discuss what is realistic in a Philippine classroom with limited instruments. The lesson ends with learners designing one five-minute activity for a chosen age group.
