Lecture 26
Integrating Music Across the Curriculum
Music as a way of learning

Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, learners will be able to: (1) design a music activity that teaches a concept from another subject; (2) explain how music supports memory and engagement; (3) plan a short cross-curricular unit with a classroom teacher.
Lesson Discussion
Music can carry other subjects: songs for multiplication, rhythms for history dates, melodies for vocabulary. Learners design one activity that teaches a non-music concept through music, then swap plans and check whether the musical element is essential or decorative. We discuss how to collaborate with a classroom teacher who may not read music. The lesson ends with a short cross-curricular unit outline.
